Broken Spears

The Broken Spears â€Å"The Broken Spears† is an assortment of numerous records of the obliteration of Mexico by Cortes and the conquistadors in their intrusion. The thought process behind this victory was Cortes’ want to bring a fortune of gold, flavors, and land that can be guaranteed, back to Spain. In spite of the fact that these wants were outstanding, they were looked for after to the detriment of the Aztecs and subsequently changed a whole human progress, because of an underlying drive for influence, control, land, and cash. Cortez alongside the Spaniards at last decimates the Aztecs as they continued looking for fortune and acclaim. The records depend on the Aztec’s impression of the attack and incorporate the revolt of the Aztec individuals that lead to the dread and the finish of the Aztec human advancement. The Spaniards first passage into Tenochtitlan The epic starts with the depiction of a progression of signs or hunches, watched ten years earlier, that was accepted to be fundamental alerts of the coming intrusion. The signs stimulate numerous frightful and frightening responses. At that point, the implications were indistinct to the Natives. As per the content, â€Å"Montezuma counseled different diviners and performers to realize whether the signs implied a moving toward war or some other crisis†, anyway the entertainers couldn't exhort him. Not before long, as indicated by the subsequent part, there were reports that â€Å"the mountains bore an odd people who have fair complexion. They throughout the entire have facial hair, and their hair comes just to their ears. † After much consideration, Montezuma sent five detachments to welcome the outsiders and to bring them endowments accepting that they may be Quetzalcoatl (God of learning and the breeze) and different divinities coming back to Mexico as they guaranteed. 2:13)Montezuma gave explicit directions with regards to how to introduce the flag-bearers and endowments to the outsiders. The locals demonstrated love to the outsiders at their appearance by â€Å"touching the ground before him with their lips†. (25) However, Cortez consequently provided requests to chain them by their necks and feet. At the point when the delivery people return, they advise Montezuma regarding the different guns, creatures, nourishments, and assets the Spaniard had, and he was surprised and unnerved by their report. Montezuma’s endeavors to get the Spaniard far from the Tenochtitlan included everything from conveying performers and warlocks trusting that they could hurt the Spaniards with their enchantment, to conveying prisoners to be relinquished in their quality. With each bombed endeavor to keep the Spaniards from entering Tenochtitlan, came the rising feelings of dread of the â€Å"inevitable†. As the Spaniard asked about Montezuma, he mulled over escaping and getting away the â€Å"gods†. Due to Montezuma’s bombed endeavors, Cortez and the Spaniards chose to start walking In-land, in their appearance to Tlaxcala and Cholula. One could contend that the intrusion of these urban areas was because of the insubordination and the way that they would not give up to Cortez’s control. During the walk Cortez increased a bigger armed force and partners. When Cortez and the Spaniards arrived at the passage of Tenochtitlan their walk was finished. Montezuma at that point arranged to welcome Cortez. As per the content, â€Å"He introduced numerous blessings to the Captain and his officers, the individuals who had come to make war. He showered endowments upon them and balanced blossoms around their necks; he gave them pieces of jewelry of blossoms and groups of blossoms to enhance their bosoms; he set wreaths of blossoms upon their heads. At that point he draped the gold pieces of jewelry around their necks and gave them presents of each sort as endowments of welcome. † Not referenced in the Broken Spears be that as it may, as indicated by the Diaz archive, Cortez offered Montezuma his correct hand yet Montezuma rejected it. It likewise expresses that Cortez went to put fine a neckband on Montezuma’s neck, however his nephews halted and declined him. The Spaniards appeared to depict a non fierce thought, as though they showed up with unadulterated goals. The document’s viewpoint appears to repudiate those of The Broken Spears. The record depicts the Aztec’s change to Christianity as a serene one. It additionally expresses that Montezuma articulates that â€Å"I am under water and will give all I poses,† uncovering that Montezuma enthusiastically gave of his assets and land. In any case, as indicated by The Broken Spears, the Aztecs were tormented and threatened. The Expulsion from Tenochtitlan (Spring 1520) After detaining Montezuma, the Spaniards start to threaten the city, causing disturbance and delivering dread into the locals. The psychological oppression that was occurring caused an uprising fights and slaughters to happen. One case of the cruelty perpetrated on the Aztecs was the occasions that occurred at a Fiesta. The Spaniard attacked the Fiesta, killing numerous Aztecs and uncovering the Spaniards didn't maintain the Aztec rules or desires for war. They were said to be foolish and very ruthless, without regard or empathy. Going before the unexpected assault at the Fiesta, different assaults and reprisals excite, for example, the Night of Sorrow. The Aztecs not, at this point wanted to follow Montezuma’s beginning requests for non reprisal. They chose to wage war and battle against the Spanish. In the assault at the Fiesta, they battled with broken lances and assaulted with lances and bolts. Anyway the Aztecs went to the acknowledgment that enough blood was shed. Montezuma’s body was found and it was hazy with respect to his reason for death. Since the Aztec no longer obliged the Spaniards by giving them nourishment, haven and supplies, Cortez understands that they should leave the land. They wanted to withdraw around evening time, anyway the retreat was found. As indicated by the content, â€Å"They assaulted as the Spaniards were escaping down the Tlacopan (presently Tacuba) interstate, and the defeat was heartbreaking to such an extent that it has been referred to since the time as â€Å"la noche triste,† the Night of Sorrows. The individuals who got away from the fiasco discovered shelter in the close by town of Teocalhueyacan, where they were invited as companions; however three-fourths of the military had died in the retreat and in the attack that went before it. The Aztecs profited significantly from the escaping of Spaniards. They accumulated things that the Spaniard surrendered and asserted it for themselves. They gathered weapons that had been abandoned or had fallen into the trench the guns, blades, lances, bows and bolts alongside all the steel head protectors, layers of mail and bosom plates, and the shields of metal, wood and stow away. They rec uperated the gold ingots, the gold plates, the containers of gold residue and the collars with their gold pendants. The rough recover of Tenochtitlan (1521) The Aztecs were persuaded that the Spaniard could stay away forever. They started to remake the city and the sanctuaries, and celebrated in a successful way. They pick another King for the city; anyway it was not long that the Aztecs lived in quietness. A shocking maladie of smallpox immediately spread. The plague spread during the thirteenth month and went on for seventy days, striking wherever in the city. It was hard for some to walk or even move. Numerous passed on from the infection, some kicked the bucket of yearning since they were unequipped for scanning for nourishment. The content depicts that the main cases were accounted for in Cuatlan. When the risk was perceived, the plague was so settled that nothing could stop it, and in the long run it spread right to Chalco. At that point its brutality decreased extensively, however there were segregated cases for a long time after. The Spaniards returned without leniency. This time anyway they had more powers, and assets, and better innovation. Despite the fact that the Aztecs had a past demeanor, they fought back, staying alert this time, of a portion of the Spaniards strategies. For instance, found that the shots from the guns consistently flew in an orderly fashion, they not, at this point fled in the line of discharge. They raced to one side or left or in crisscrosses, not before the weapons. After a lot of fights and much slaughter. The Aztecs in the end gave up to the Spaniards. The Aztecs culture and human advancement was in the end annihilated after the Spaniard consumed the sanctuaries and devastated their realms. In contrasting the readings of The Broken Spears to some archive extracts, a huge uniqueness is found. There were numerous moves that the Aztec’s made, that to some were viewed as uncouth. For example, in The Conquest of New Spain, Diaz portrays the Aztecs to be fairly savage like. He referenced that they would â€Å"tear out the palpitation heart, with the blood, they present as idols† and they would eat â€Å"arms and thighs at their stately banquets†. Be that as it may, The Broken Spears depicts these activities as holy forfeits that were indications of regard and respect. These reasons alone demonstrate why separate records help get history. There is a maxim that states: â€Å"There are different sides to each story. † The Broken Spears would be viewed as the opposite side

Selecting A Pure Breed Essay Example For Students

Selecting A Pure Breed Essay All dogs, impure as well as pure-bred, and several wild cousins such as wolves and foxes, are one family. Each breed was created by human beings, using selective breeding to get desired qualities. The result is an almost unbelievable diversity of purebred dogs that will, when bred to others of their breed, produce their own kind. A breed standard is a written description of a given breed. This description uses words to define what a breed should look like. A standard exists for each of the breeds recognized by The American Kennel Club (AKC) and is the standard each breed is mentally measured against.Throughout the world there are several hundred distinctive breeds of purebred dogs, not all of which are AKC recognized breeds. There are currently 147 breeds officially recognized by the AKC. Each breed is assigned to one of the following seven groups, based on the uses for which the breeds were originally developed. These seven groups include: Group 1 Sporting Dogs; Group 2 Working Dogs; Group 3 Terriers; Group 4 Toy Breeds; Group 5 Non-Sporting Breeds; Group 6 Herding; and Group 7 Hounds. The Sporting dogs are naturally active and alert, likable, and well-rounded companions. Members of this Group include pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels. Remarkable for their instincts in water and woods, many of these breeds actively participate in hunting and other field activities. Potential owners of Sporting dogs need to realize that most require regular, invigorating exercise. Dogs of the Working Group, of which there are 21, were bred to perform such jobs as guarding property, pulling sleds and performing water rescues. They have been an invaluable asset to human being throughout the ages. The Doberman Pinscher, Siberian Husky and Great Dane are included in this Group. Quick to learn, these intelligent, capable animals make solid companions. The Terrier Group is a group of feisty, energetic dogs whose sizes range from fairly small, as in the Norfolk, Cairn to the grand Airedale Terrier. This group consists of 25 different recognizable breeds. Their ancestors were bred for hunting and killing vermin. These dogs are very determined and are often described as projecting an attitude that they are always eager for a spirited argument. They require owners with the determination to match their lively characteristics. With 20 separate breeds in it, dogs in the Toy Group are full of energy. These dogs may look little and fragile, but many Toy dogs are tough as nails (AKC.org). This group is popular for people who do not have a lot of space for a larger dog. This group contains the ever lovable Chihuahua, Italian Greyhound, and Poodle. The diminutive size and winsome expressions of Toy dogs illustrate the main function of this Group: to embody sheer delight (AKC.org). The Poodle, Dalmatian, and Bulldog are a few examples of the 17 breeds you will find in the Non-Sporting Group. This is an extremely diverse group of dog breeds. Some are extremely rare to find, while others are seen all the time and everywhere. The breeds in the Non-Sporting Group are a varied collection in terms of size, coat, personality and overall appearance (AKC.org). The Herding Group, consisting of the Collie, Border Collie, and German Shepherd Dog are some of the most popular family pets. This is an astounding group of smart dogs. Formerly members of the Working Group, they were separated into their own group in 1983. All breeds share the fabulous ability to control the movements of other animals (AKC. org). These dogs make wonderful, obedient pets if given the time for training and exercises. The Hound Group contains such popular dogs as the Basset Hound, Bloodhound, and Greyhound. There are 22 separate breeds in the Hound Group alone. .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .postImageUrl , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:hover , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:visited , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:active { border:0!important; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:active , .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407 .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uad4148cdca1c5aa9e51b651177a52407:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Health Fitness Program Essay Most hounds share the common ancestral trait of being used for hunting, for example, some use acute scenting powers to follow a trail. Others demonstrate a phenomenal gift of stamina as they relentlessly run down prey. Purebred dogs are found in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and personalities. Some breeds are old, others are new, and all have been molded over time to serve humanity in some capacity. Thus we have hunters, guards, trackers, shepherds, sled dogs, and above all, companions. We have energetic dogs, sedate dogs, extroverted dogs and those that prefer the fellowship of one or a few familiar faces. Choosing the purebred dog thats right for you requires some work. By narrowing down these groups you can find a dog to fit your life style and personality. Chromosome Probes At The University Of Toronto -----------------------

Chromosome Probes at the University of Toronto ------------------------------------------------------- Uploaded: November 29, 1986. Sensitive chromosome probes recently discovered by a University of Toronto geneticist will make it easier to detect certain types of genetic and prenatal diseases, as well as being used to determine paternity and provide forensic evidence in criminal cases. Probes are short pieces of DNA which bind to, and actually pinpoint, particular sites on a chromosome. Because these new probes are actually repeated hundreds or thousands of time at a particular site, they are much more sensitive than previously available ones. ==[1/6]================================================ Press any key to continue... ======================================================= Of the 23 pairs of human chromosomes, Dr. F.H. Willard has discovered repeated probes or markers for six plus the gender determining X and Y chromosomes. "What we're trying to decide now is whether to isolate probes for the other chromosomes, or whether we should utilize the eight we have," he says. Dr. Willard is currently negotiating with an American company to develop prenatal diagnostic tests, which, because the current tests are time consuming and technically difficult to do, are restricted to women over 35 and those who have a family history of chromosomal abnormalities. Prenatal tests using Willard's probes would be much simpler and faster to perform and could be available to all pregnant women who wish to take advantage of the technology. ==[2/6]================================================ Press any key to continue... ======================================================= Current prenatal testing involves growing fetal cells in vitro and examining them, over one or two months, to see if there are two copies of a particular chromosome, which is normal, or one or three, which is abnormal. A test using Willard's probes would require only a few cells and a few days to detect abnormalities. "I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that these kinds of tests could eventually be done by an obstetrician in the office during the early stages of pregnancy," he adds. The determination of gender is another possible use for the probes. Many diseases, such as Duschene's muscular dystrophy, show up on the X chromosome, manifesting only in boys. Willard thinks it is possible to develop a test which would quickly indicate the fetus' sex. This would benefit parents whose only option is to have no children or to have only girls. ==[3/6]================================================ Press any key to continue... ======================================================= Confirming gender in children with ambiguous genitalia is another medical reason for using the test. A quick examination of the X and Y chromosomes of the child would indicate whether genetically the child is male or female. As yet, Willard has been unable to develop a probe for chromoso me 21. Down's Syndrome results from three copies of chromosome 21 (trisomy 21). "I think we'll know within a year whether a test to detect trisomy 21 is feasible, " he says hopefully. The other six chromosome probes which Willard has developed do not immediately lend themselves to diagnostic tests, except for certain cancers, he says. "We have a probe for chromosome 7 and we know that trisomy 7 is a signal for certain types of cancer. Chromosome abnormalities of all kinds are a signpost of tumors." Theoretically, an oncologist could use a ==[4/6]================================================ Press any key to continue... ======================================================= chromosome probe test to examine tissue and obtain a reading for a specific cancer. " It wouldn't suggest a mode of therapy," he points out, "but would be a speedy test and would have prognostic implications for the kind of tumor discovered." As a basic research tool, Willard's probes could be used to develop a genetic linkage map for human chromosomes. "It's important to know the location of genes in the human genome, particularly disease genes. The leading approach to try to sort out disease genes is to use genetic linkage. Because our sequences are at the centromere it would allow us to develop a map." The third application for the probes is in forensic biology. Willard believes his markers are as unique to each each individual as are fingerprints. According to the geneticist, it will be possible to make a DNA ==[5/6]================================================ Press any key to continue... ======================================================= 'fingerprint' from blood or sperm, which could be used as evidence in rape or murder cases. Racial and Ethnic Profiling during a time of war essays

Racial and Ethnic Profiling during a time of war essays There are many factors that can affect a persons reasoning regarding racial and ethnic profiling during a time of war. One of these factors includes difference of race, the driving force behind an argument that, in the post 9-11 environment, usually occurs between people of European decent and people of Middle Eastern decent. Another factor that can create altercations among citizens is the countrys diversity of religious beliefs, many of which preach against other religions. Because of these and other factors, Americans have taken various positions regarding racial and ethnic profiling: they have been angered by it, they have embraced it, or they have taken the dangerous position of indifference. To begin with, the large majority of Americas populace that has been angered by the governments adoption of racial and ethnic profiling as a security measure consists of Muslim-Americans and people of Middle Eastern decent. Muslims feel that they have been wrongly discriminated against, saying that their religion promotes peace and that the government is falsely accusing them of being terrorists. Of course, Muslims are not the only people that are angry with the government for employing racial and ethnic profiling as a security measure. Liberal activists, who feel they owe Muslim-Americans a helping hand, are also speaking out against the government. They believe that the authorities are have overstepped their boundaries and that no one will be safe from the prying eyes of Big Brother. However, there is also a large group of Americans that supports the use of profiling to protect their country. In their opinion, it is worth violating the dignity of a group of people in order to positively affect the greater good: the American people. This approach may seem cruel and unethical; but in many patriots world, profiling is necessary to completely ensure the countrys safety during this time of war. Though th...

Marketing Communication Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Marketing Communication - Case Study Example In this study the communication objective of this campaign, the purpose of this campaign will be analyzed along with the role of integrated marketing communication tools and their link to the response stages will be analyzed. This campaign on natural beauty was started after the Unilever's Dove brand through its study found that out of 3300 women and girl that were surveyed in 10 different countries, only 2% considered them as beautiful, which means that the current advertisement campaigns running through advertisements, magazines, billboard have changed the perception of beauty (Kotler,2008). It further revealed that about 90% of the women who age between 15-64 years want at least one aspect of their physical appearance to change; while over 67% of the women leave life-engaging activities because they are not comfortable with their physical looks. Enterprise Integration System Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Enterprise Integration System - Essay Example Forming a business application has proven to be tough and so is formulating an application to run an enterprise. The enterprise resource planning vendors have been successful in making humongous enterprise applications. Still the applications only account for a little percentage of the functions of a business that are required in an enterprise. The spread of these functions across applications renders the business more flexible in selection of packages for accounting, software that manage customer relationship and systems that process orders for the needs. The main aim of the selection done is to ensure that only the best is there for effective functioning. With the numerous requirements for the individual businesses, many applications will be highly recommended as compared to using a single enterprise application that performs all the functions.Vendors have found a way of adhering to this preference via offering focused applications to perform specific functions. However, the need th at arises of improving available software by adding their functions has affected other business applications. Users of the software do not put into consideration the limits of the functions of the systems whenever they perform activities with the businesses. These individuals perform the functions of a business regardless of the kinds of systems that the function entails. For example, when some one makes a call to alter his personal information and view if the last amount cashed went through.

Climate Change and National Security Essay Example for Free

Climate Change and National Security Essay That same month, the UN Security Council—at the initiative of the UK government—held its first-ever debate on the potential impact of climate change on peace and security. In October 2007, the Nobel committee recognized this emerging threat to peace and security by awarding former vice president Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change its peace prize. In November 2007, wo think tanks, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), released another report on the issue, concluding from a range of possible scenarios of climate change that, â€Å"We already know enough to appreciate that the cascading consequences of unchecked climate change are to include a range of security problems that will have dire global consequences. †2 The new interest in climate change and national security has been a valuable warning about the potential security consequences of global warming, but the proposed solutions that accompanied recent efforts have emphasized broader climate policy rather than specific responses to security threats. Because the links between climate change and national security are worthy of concern in their own right, and because some significant climate change is inevitable, strategies that go beyond long-run efforts to rein in greenhouse gas emissions are required. This report sharpens the connections between climate change and national security and recommends specific policies to address the security consequences of climate change for the United States. In all areas of climate change policy, adaptation and mitigation (reducing greenhouse gas emissions) should be viewed as complements rather than competing alternatives—and the national security dimension is no exception. Some policies will be targeted at adaptation, most notably risk-reduction and preparedness policies at home and abroad. These could spare the United States the need to mobilize its military later to rescue people and to prevent regional disorder—and would ensure a more effective response if such mobilization was nonetheless necessary. Others will focus on mitigation, 2 CSIS/CNAS, The Age of Consequences: The Foreign Policy and National Security Implications of Global Climate Change, November 2007; available at http://www. cnas. org/climatechange. 2 which is almost universally accepted as an essential part of the response to climate change. Mitigation efforts will need to be international and involve deep changes in the world’s major economies, such as those of China and India. As a result, the processes of working together to craft and implement them provide opportunities to advance American security interests.

Censorship in America Essay -- essays research papers

Censorship in America   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.† These are the exact words used by our country’s forefathers when they made these amendments in the late 1700’s. Ever since then there have been people trying to abolish this right by censoring things that the American public has a right to see if they so choose. Movies, books, music, thoughts, ideas, and literature are all things that have fallen victims to censorship in this country. The idea and practice of censorship is unconstitutional and should be completely abolished in all forms.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Many Americans love films, the meanings behind those films and the impact some films have on people’s lives. Ever since films were created there have been people and organizations that have tried to censor and block what the public can and cannot see. Even to this day there are certain things that if put on film because of censorship, would never make it to the public. This is very sad. Film is one of this country’s great expressive outlets. Many filmmakers and the people who enjoy what these filmmakers put out are effected by the horrible concept of censorship. When a film is put out to the public it is first reviewed by a movie rating board who then assigns the film a rating to tell people what age groups the film is suitable for and what the film contains. Movie selection for minors should solely be the responsibility of that child’s parent, not some critic that watches films and then makes decisions for other people about who can watch it and who can’t. People just need to start to understand the real meaning of free speech and expression in this country. Too many people are taking it for granted. People who are for the censorship of films may argue that it’s for the good of our children, shielding them from violence and sex, and not exposing them to something that they claim may be mentally harm... ...from the other side of this argument is the fact that profanity and sexually explicit material shouldn’t be exposed to young children without their parental permission. But telling teenagers and young adults who are mature enough to choose what they want to listen to is completely wrong and unjust. The key word here is choice. As stated earlier, the thing that makes this country truly great is the idea that we have the right to listen to whatever we choose we want to listen to, not what a censor thinks you should be exposed to, it’s ridiculous.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Freedom of speech and expression is one of the most important rights that we have in this country. Our forefathers knew this and acknowledged this in our great constitution which protects our rights as citizens in America. Censorship is a complete contradiction to this concept that has helped make America the greatest country in the world. If we do not stand up for our rights for free speech, someday it may be taken away all together. Everyday there are people out there trying to ban and censor things from Americans, things that as an American you have the right to view. Censorship must be stopped at all costs.

Communication Basics Answers Essay

1.3 Communication Basics learning objectives Describe how the communication principles and misconceptions in Chapter 1 are evident in a specific situation. Assess the needs (physical, identity, social, and practical) that communicators are attempting to satisfy in a given situation or relationship. Apply the transactional communication model to a specific situation. Instructions Use the case below and the discussion questions that follow to discuss the variety of communication issues involved in effective communication. Make notes on this page, add other pages on your own, or prepare a group report/analysis based on your discussion. Add your own experiences to individualize the analysis. Case Kristie and Jacob have been dating one another exclusively for four months. They both have part-time jobs and hope to complete their college studies within two years. Jacob thinks they should move in together. Kristie is reluctant to agree until she has more commitment from Jacob. Jacob doesn’t want to make promises he can’t keep. Kristie thinks that if they just communicate more they will be able to solve the problem, but Jacob thinks that talking about it more won’t help. 1. What needs (physical, identity, social, and/or practical) do Kristie and Jacob seem to have? It seems that both need each others presence but Kristie wants more of a committed relationship than Jacob, she wants him to be all in but Jacob feels its unnecessary to communicate with Kristie & get and understanding he rather just make things happen than to talk about making them happen. 2. Identify one element of the communication model that might help explain some of the communication problems they are having and help them communicate more effectively. A part of Kristie & Jacobs problem could be their separate environments  channeling their miscommunication creating a window of bad noise. So maybe if they were in a positive environment together they’d have a better understanding of each others wants. 3. What communication principles and/or misconceptions described in Chapter 1 may be operating in this situation? Kristie seems to have a content dimension while Jacob is relational because Kristie wants to talk about things and have better communication to move forward while Jacob rather act first and discuss later. 4. What likely role will mediated communication play in the scenario? Mediated communication is playing a likely role in this situation due to the fact both Kristie & Jacob are still in school and working that could be the leading cause of their communication. 5. How would you advise Jacob and Kristie to proceed with their communication practices? My advice to Jacob & Kristie moving forward would be to make time for them to find a common ground to understand each other & find a way around their separation if they feel the relationship is worth it and compromise for each other.
